The Nyngan GRDC Grains Research Update at the Nyngan RSL & Civic Club on Wed 29th of February is a one-day seminar showcasing the latest research information relevant to grain growers in the region.Topics include:
- The carbon tax – what does it mean for grain and livestock producers? Mick Keogh (Australian Farm Institute)
- Carbon sequestration and farming systems – how much carbon can northern cropping and mixed farming systems store? Jeff Baldock (CSIRO)
- Regional agronomy trials – time of sowing, soil capacitance probes to measure soil water, varietal comparisons and more. Rohan Brill (NSW DPI) & Leigh Jenkins (NSW DPI)
- Changes to APH wheat classification; APH regions outside NNSW and Qld; splitting APH classes to noodle and milling; re-classification of some older varieties. Cindy Mills (Wheat Classification Council)
- Optimising Water Use Efficiency in western cropping systems.
- Strategies for improving water use efficiency in western regions through better water partitioning pre-and post anthesis. James Hunt (CSIRO) & Rohan Brill (NSW DPI)

Registration is 8:30am for a 9am start. Day will conclude by 3:15pm. Cost: $45 pp and $40 for second person per farm (Cheques payable to ICAN Pty. Ltd.). Lunch, morning tea and proceedings provided.
